Lakewood and the “M” Streets in east Dallas are charming inner city neighborhoods very popular with young couples with children, as the schools are consistently rated highly by state standards. Comprised mainly of 1920’s and 1930’s architecture, the area is protected from unsightly new constructions which do not conform to the scale and style of these quaint enclaves. Enjoying the preservation of an historic district, Swiss Avenue has some of the finest mansions in the city. East Dallas is also home to “Lower Greenville” with some of the city’s oldest bars and taverns as well as live music venues and a wonderfully eclectic mix of restaurants and retail stores. The historic Granada Theatre is located on Greenville Avenue. The Knox-Henderson stretch is another very lively area for dining and recreation.
